The use of Blockchain in Finance
Presentation from Josep Grau on the Deep Learning in Finance Summit, London 23 - 23 September 2016 speaking about the use of Blockchain in Finance. Blockchain has the potential to disrupt multiple industries and make processes, more democratic, secure, transparent, and efficient. Entrepreneurs, startup companies’ investors, global organizations and governments have all identified Blockchain as a disruptive opportunity to change the current paradigm. Banks are not characterized for being neither agile nor fast when embracing new technologies due to their legacy system. However, times are changing and new technologies are being offered. In order to adapt to new times and shifting to more scalable systems and interconnected world, banks will have to adapt to new technologies and embrace changes easily. But, is this shift feasible? Josep did his bachelor on electrical engineering and a master in telecommunication engineering in Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Due to his motivation on having a positive impact on the world and willing to contribute to create sustainable value for the society, Josep moved to Sweden in order to do a Master on Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management by KTH Royal Institute in Stockholm, where he wrote his master thesis on “Strategic innovation in financial sector: Blockchain and the case of Spanish banks”.

Blockchain: Real World Use Cases
At Global Architecture Week 2015, we covered ‘Digital Currencies and Cash’ and their relevance to Tax and Welfare Authorities, concluding with the message: “It’s not about Bitcoin, it’s about the Blockchain”. Blockchain technology has the potential to enable a new mutually trusted, transparent way of sharing and transacting. In the UK Public Sector, Sir Mark Walport’s report Distributed Ledger Technology: Beyond Blockchain encouraged Government to assess its early use and potential. Meanwhile in the private sector, Blockchain FinTech excitement among start-ups and venture capitalists remained strong for a technology promised to be “like a whole new internet for value exchange”. But where are the real world use cases today? What is it that makes a use case more likely to succeed? In this talk, Nick Meyne, Enterprise Architect, Capgemini shares and discusses a number of Capgemini examples. Filmed at Capgemini Week of Innovation Networks 2016 in Telford, UK.

International Trade Solution on Blockchain
International trading involves many participants all around the globe. These participants may not necessarily have the needed trust of all parties, especially at the initial stages, when newcomers join the trade. Blockchain can provide the needed trust to capture key transaction activities as immutable records, as well as storing and sharing encrypted legal and financial documents. Visibility of transaction records and documents are tightly controlled by blockchain, permitting sharing only among entrusted and allowed parties. In this demo, IBM demonstrates how blockchain may support such an application.

Blockchain for Enterprise Applications: Beyond Bitcoin and Crypto
Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple and other cryptocurrencies immediately come to mind when you hear ‘blockchain’, but cryptocurrencies only scratch the surface of what blockchain can do for your business – with potential use cases that stretch far beyond the Financial sector. Blockchain empowers enterprises to build applications with the potential to transform the way whole ecosystems work, especially where business processes and control extend beyond traditional corporate boundaries. By leveraging ‘smart contracts’ and integrating with off-chain data stores and IoT networks, organizations can build applications which extend their processes much further across supply chains; operate in trust-free environments as much as within known business networks; remove the need for expensive and inefficient central intermediaries; and provide a cryptographically secure form of proving identity, authenticity, and entitlement. Watch this webinar, moderated by Appian’s Product Strategy Developer, Austin Fathman, to hear industry expert Craig Wentworth of MWD Advisors explain why blockchain is so much more than "just a crypto technology." This webinar also explores: - The pros and cons of different blockchain types (public vs private) - What different blockchain technologies (such as Ethereum, Hyperledger, R3 Corda) offer, and how to harden them for use in the enterprise - What blockchain can (and can’t!) do for your business and how to spot an opportunity for blockchain application

Fintech Central: Blockchain will never work in financial services & bitcoin is here to stay
On December 2017, we hosted the New York fintech community at NASDAQ for our last Fintech Central of 2017. The event marked the three-year anniversary of Fintech Central and I’d like to thank all of you who actively support the fintech community from coast to coast. Over the years, we’ve hosted founders and executives from companies like Betterment, Coinbase, LendingClub, NASDAQ, Plaid, and Ripple. But for the last installment of the year, we mixed it up a bit and invited some of the top early stage fintech investors to share their thoughts. Matt Harris from Bain Capital, Dan Ciporin from Canaan and Hans Morris from Nyca joined us for the panel discussion. These three investors have backed top fintech companies such as Affirm, Lending Club, CircleUp, Orchard, Acorns, iex, and AvidXchange. While it took less than 30 seconds for bitcoin to be mentioned, Matt, Dan and Hans touched on everything from their thoughts on the current market valuations, to unique characteristics of their own investment processes, and even the companies that they saw and now regret not investing in. One of the conversations that really stood out was about how fintech has changed over the last few cycles. Hans pointed out that fintech received just 1% of venture funding back in 2010, even though financial services accounted for 18% of the S&P 500 and 9.5% of GDP. Today, fintech receives 4% of venture dollars and Matt points to a fundamental shift in fintech as the reason for the increase: historically fintech sold into financial services businesses where as fintech today is attempting to compete with financial services. Even with this explosive growth in the market, Dan cautioned that entrepreneurs and operators need to carefully select the sub-verticals they’re attempting to disrupt. For example, if you ask a VC what they think of adtech (the definition of out of favor) and marketplace lending today, you’ll likely get the same response for each. While marketplace lending is out of favor, the panelists did shed some light on hot areas in fintech right now. At a high level, everyone pointed to insurtech, real estate tech and crypto but everyone also had their own unique perspective. Matt is focused on entrepreneurs who are uniquely qualified to solve a problem that is huge, non-obvious, daunting, and yet the founder has a smart angle to the problem. Dan enjoys investing in companies that are unsexy, and gave an example of his current thesis around credit card fraud vis-à-vis the massive migration to online purchases. Finally, Hans is passionate about enterprise companies, but specifically at the edge of the enterprise where ROI can be illustrated in one year or less. There was also a lively debate around the broader crypto market, with consensus that bitcoin is potentially a very interesting replacement for gold, but also that blockchain serves nearly no purpose in major financial services applications. Matt pointed out that if there’s a 1% chance that bitcoin goes to $1M, that’s a screaming buy, and Dan’s sell signal is when Jamie Dimon starts buying. The challenge is that in valuing bitcoin, there is obviously no reference point, no EPS to point to – it is simply a popularity contest of supply and demand. You can watch the panel in full below, and if nothing else skip to the 36 minute mark where you can hear about some of the most successful companies that they looked at and ultimately passed on. Thanks again to Matt, Dan and Hans for joining us for Canaan’s Fintech Central, this was truly one of my favorite panels to date. Happy New Year to all! - Michael Gilroy, Canaan Partners

Bitcoin And Blockchain Technology Will Drain The Swamp Of Forex Trading Fraud
Best Crypto Trading Signals: https://bosscapital1.blogspot.com/2018/08/maximus-cryptobot-autotrader-review.html Blockchain Financial Trading: http://spectretrading.com Bitcoin IRA Investment Kit: https://regalwallet.com/?id=7787 Blockchain is a distributed digital ledger (or database) of transactions. Some other examples of distributed ledger technology (DLT) include Ripple, Ethereum, and Hyperledger. What makes this ledger special is that it is shared by a vast network of people (or computers) that must validate and approve every transaction through consensus. Once a transaction is written into the ledger, it can neither be changed nor recalled. That is the first layer of safety. Second, a hacker can't get at it because there is no single point of vulnerability; this is because the ledger exists on millions of computers and to break it open the hacker would have to breach it on each one of them. This is why the distributed ledger is considered impenetrable. Another way in which blockchain curtails fraud is the smart contract. A smart contract is a digital contract that is automatically enforced when certain conditions are fulfilled. All the documents required for the contract are digitised and put on blockchain, where the network validates them. By doing away with paper documentation, the smart contract straightaway eliminates document fraud, and also the risk of loss during transit. Now, only genuine users with established identity and ownership can transact, and that too in full view of the blockchain network. A huge use case for the smart contract is property dealings. Digitising land records on blockchain would foil the intentions of fraudsters misusing a General Power of Attorney or access to title documents to lay false claim to property. In addition, a smart property contract would curb tax evasion by making make the terms of transaction open and transparent to the regulatory authorities. There are many other use cases like these for using distributed ledger technology for managing risk, corruption and fraud. The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology, a think tank set up by the RBI, has published a long list of potential blockchain applications in a recent white paper. This and the RBI deputy governor's statement are indications of the authorities' keen interest in the technology. Other government initiatives are also indirectly laying the groundwork for blockchain adoption. These include JAM—Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and Mobile—an ambitious set of initiatives to provide a bank account, identity and mobility to every Indian, and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) initiative that will revolutionise digital payments in the country. If the bank account details, unique identification number and registered mobile information of every Indian were put on blockchain, it would pave the way for a completely digital environment and safe, secure and transparent transactions. blockchain financial services use cases, blockchain impact on financial services, blockchain finance industry, blockchain technology in banking, blockchain finance companies,
Bitcoin 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0: Currency, Contracts, and Applications, beyond Financial Markets
Bitcoin 1.0 is currency - the deployment of cryptocurrencies in applications related to cash such as currency transfer, remittance, and digital payment systems. Bitcoin 2.0 is contracts - the whole slate of economic, market, and financial applications using the blockchain that are more extensive than simple cash transactions like stocks, bonds, futures, loans, mortgages, titles, smart property, and smart contracts. Bitcoin 3.0 is blockchain applications beyond currency, finance, and markets, particularly in the areas of government, health, science, literacy, culture, and art. Prevalence of Decentralized Models Even if the currently developing models of Bitcoin and blockchain technology are not the final paradigm (there are many problematic flaws), the bigger trend, decentralized models as a class, could have a pronounced impact. If not the blockchain industry, there would probably be something else, and in fact there probably will be other complements to the blockchain industry anyway. It is just that the blockchain industry is one of the first identifiable large-scale implementations of decentralization models, conceived and executed at a new and more complex level of human activity. Decentralized models have the potential to reorganize all manner of human activity, and quickly, because they are trustless, the friction of the search and trust-establishment process in previous models of human interaction is eliminated. This could mean greatly accelerated rates and levels of activity, on a much greater humanity-level scale. The blockchain (decentralized network coordination technology) could emerge as a fundamental infrastructure element in the model to scale humanity to its next levels of orders-of-magnitude-larger progress.
